“Weight “is the most talked-about topic in modern-day life. Be it weight-loss or diets related to it. There are so many queries about how to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. What to eat and when is the best time of the day to eat. And so many more things we all want to know. 

We will discuss a few of our Myths today and will see and try to choose what suits us the best.

Night-time Eating Makes You Gain Weight: There is no proof that night- time eating can make you fat. What I know is that over-eating high-calorie food at night can cause weight gain. It is recommended to eat a few hours before going to sleep or else it can be a reason for heartburn and indigestion.

 Otherwise eating at night or any other time doesn’t make any difference. It’s just calories in and calories out which affects the weight loss or weight gain. Keep a close watch on how many calories you burn in a day and what number of calories are you eating and you can eat whenever you find it comfortable.

Coffee is not good for you: This is a myth. Coffee, when consumed in moderation(2 to 3 cups a day), is part of a healthy diet and now researchers have also proved that coffee has antioxidant phytochemicals and it can help reduce type 2 diabetes, gallstones, Parkinson’s disease, and even some cancers. 

But you must keep a check on calories from cream, sugar, and flavoured syrup.

The less fat you eat the better: Your body needs three nutrients to thrive. Proteins, Carbs and Fats. Fats found in nuts avocados, seeds and low-fat dairy give you energy, help rebuild cells, and produce needed hormones.

 According to science also one teaspoon of desi ghee daily can help mobilize your joints and keeps you healthy. We can easily incorporate some cheese into our daily diet as it keeps us full for longer.

We need a lot of protein to lose weight: Many people think they need to eat a lot of protein to make muscle and lose weight. And they try to get it from whey proteins and protein shakes.

 In our daily diets, we get enough of protein through milk products, pulses, eggs, meats, and nuts. So, there is no need to take extra protein through protein powders and protein bars. It is right that with a protein diet we feel less hungry for long hours, but we can get that from real food instead of whey protein.

Eating sugar is harmful: Some experts believe sugar is an addictive substance. For instance, the authors of a controversial narrative review in 2017 wrote: “Animal data has shown a significant overlap between the consumption of added sugars and drug-like effects, including bingeing, craving, withdrawal,cross-sensitization,cross-tolerance,cross-dependence, and reward and opioid effects.”

If you are worrying that sugar is not good for you while counting calories forget about it. However, refrain from eating empty sugar calories. Natural sugars found in dairy products, fruits and vegetables are not harmful. Even jaggery is considered good. Refined sugars are not healthy. They can lead to weight gain and many other health problems including heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Stick to natural sugars and use sweeteners not to feel deprived.😊

No carb diets help lose weight:  This is not true at all. We need carbs as much as we need proteins and fats in our diet. So restricting carbs is not the way to losing weight. A healthy diet consists of a combination of all nutrients. However, we can lower the number of simple carbs in our diet and increase the consumption of complex carbohydrates. Including red beans, pulses, gram flour, and whole grains in our diet can reduce intake of simple carbs like rice, wheat, refined floor etc.

 After reading about all myths which are associated with weight loss you must be wondering what is best for losing weight in a healthy manner?

I know there are so many articles on this topic all over the internet and people choose diet plans according to their needs and comfort levels. I can tell based on my experience that eating healthy foods like fresh fruits and vegetables, including complex carbohydrates in your diet, not using sugary drinks, consuming fats like ghee and cheese is the key to your sustained weight loss.

 So, the conclusion is you don’t need to deprive yourself of any food. Just choose your food smartly and follow some exercise regime religiously. A well planned and regular lifestyle can lead you to lose weight gradually and steadily (about 1 to 2 pounds per week).

Keep all those Myths aside and brace for a New You with motivation and strong will-power to lose weight. I am sure you will be able to reach your goals in no time.😄
