A Drop Of Rain

“Thunder only happens when it’s raining

Players only love you when they’re playing

Women, they will come and they will go

When the rain washes you clean, you’ll know”

These lines from “Mick Fleetwood “of “Fleetwood Mac “ from his song “Dreams” touched my heart deeply. It was still raining and I kept looking at the sky. Since I was a child I liked the rainy season. It always brings out the child in me. Running around and dancing in the rain comforts me like nothing. When raindrops touch my face they actually touch my heart. The cold winds get my heartbeat faster.

Many beautiful songs, books, movies quotes and poems have had the theme of rain behind them. On one hand, we see rain being used as an image behind the expression of sadness, loss and a broken heart. On the other hand, we can see rain bringing out the playful side in us, our inner child and our ability to feel carefree and natural.

Have you ever heard this quote” Anyone who says that only sunshine will bring happiness, has clearly never gone dancing in the rain.” All rain lovers like me will understand this very well.

The music in rain can be felt when its soothing sound comforts our heart and soul. There are sound machines, meditation and calm music with the sound of rain being used as a tool for relaxation. Maybe you can also listen to some unspoken words through raindrops.

Every time it rains, it reminds us of a story from our past. Sometimes we recall childhood memories associated with rains or our college days when we felt so real after washing out together in rain.

A cosy corner at home, a cup of hot tea and some evergreen Bollywood music is the best combination to relax on a rainy day. In fact, Bollywood has always exploited rain, establishing a connection between rain, music and romance. So many scenes and songs have been made constructively using this combination.

Who can forget the song “Pyar Hua Ikraar Hua hai, Pyar Se fir Kyun Darta Hai Dil.”Raj Kapoor and Nargis in Sree 420 bring this song to life.

“Rimjhim Rimjhim Rumjhum rumjhum, bheegi bheegi rut me hum tum tum hum, chalte hain.” Manisha Koirala and Anil Kapoor coyly romancing on a rainy day in the movie 1942 a love story. This song makes one feel like walking in the rain with beloved humming the tunes of the song.

I am prompted to think is it just me or everyone feels the same?

 Let me ask you…

Do you love the smell of damp soil and grass?

Do you love the sound of rain crashing onto the earth?

Do you love the fresh splashes of rain on your body?

I love it all.

Rain is a human for me…it whispers, it hammers, it knocks, it attacks, it wakes me up, it brings my emotions out, it clams my soul and so many other things.

I need some more rain to shower. Want to feel each drop so I can express it with more words and add beautiful meaning to it. Let that rain wipe out and wash away all that stress and bad energies.

I Want to let that drop get in that root inside. To bloom with that bliss and feel that epitome of love for rain. I just want to hold that little love for rain before it stops raining. Because of God’s love, I have tasted living water (rain) and I will never feel thirsty again.

I would suggest all of you to Skip a day at work, give yourself a day. Enjoy the pouring and fall asleep while it downpours! 😊😊

  1. Great Post! I too am a fan of that song. Rainy days give you so many alternatives, but I like what ildan said, “You don’t have to get wet to be good friends with the rain! Just feel the rhythm of the raindrops in your soul!”…Blessings and Peace!

    1. I am happy that you liked this post. Vice quotes therapist and anxiety and depression specialist Kimberly Hershenson, who explains, “Rain produces a sound akin to white noise. The brain gets a tonic signal from white noise that decreases this need for sensory input, thus calming us down. Rain is soul soothing for almost everyone.😊

  2. I would never suggest I’m right about this, that my feeling on the matter is the only correct one, but I don’t like the rain. I don’t like getting me wet. When it comes down, I feel like it’s something I need to get away from.

In fact, your post reminded me how much I don’t like getting wet or greased with creams. For some reason, putting things on my skin – rain, cream, treatments of any kind – makes me uncomfortable.

I know we need rain and I’m happy for it to come when needed but I’d rather not be outside when it’s falling.

For me, sunny days are first choice but I appreciate overcast days too. Those are great for cycling and I try to do that regularly.

But, even though I don’t identify with your feelings about rain, I do appreciate the post. It would be an awfully dull world if everyone were like me and the reality is, like it or not, we all need rain :).

    1. Thank you for sharing your views and thoughts on rain. It’s our personal choice what we like so there is no harm if you don’t like rain. That’s totally fine.😊

On your questions, I say that I am a big lover of Rain.
In childhood, I used to get drenched purposefully!
I love the smell of first rain and the smell of ground (Mitti ~ damp soil)
I love rain in forest, I experienced when I used to go to my native.
I loved rain music when it falls in the roof made with TIN.
I love to play love during Rain. It increases love in many forms.
Splashing rain water on others was another play.
There are many more reasons to loverain.
    Finally, RAIN INCREASES LOVE ”
Thank you so much for bringing this post on Love. I wished to write many more, but I can not write here right now. You have expressed beautifully!

    1. I am so glad to know that all your answers are in “Yes.” 😊😊 It can change my mood always. I liked to float paper boats in the water.
Even today when it rains I feel like a child and take a tour down the memory lane when we used to enjoy it in many ways…which I can’t do today😊😊. But those memories are invaluable for me. Nowadays kids are different(I think). They enjoy it differently. As they have access to gadgets we didn’t have that time. We just had these natural things and we actually enjoyed it a lot and even today we feel all that from the bottom of our hearts as those feelings are still alive.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience here. You are right, we can write a lot on it but maybe some other time. Have a nice day.😊😊

      1. Thank you so much Anita Ji for your comments. For me too, childhood memories gives us glimpses of pleasures. There were hardly any pains. We were happy with whatever we had. We shared with elders to the youngest. Lots of family togetherness. Now you will not find since present generation kids are busy with assignments and struggles to get established. Moreover, they have intense desires on objects.
Please share more poems because you have special ability to express in poetic way. I think on same topics as you think, but I can not express in poetic nature. You write in such a way as if someone saying just by sitting on my side.
        Take care. stay blessed always.
Best wishes for you and your family.
        Namaskar.😊🙏

      2. Thanks once again Arun Ji.😊😊 I agree, when we were kids the atmosphere around us was totally different. And so many young people are still there who admire those days which they cannot be a part of. They feel lonely because technology cannot replace real people. They crave for that togetherness but can’t get that from anyone.
You are right, poems just come naturally in my mind and whatever I feel I just write it. Readers like you always inspire me to write more and I am so thankful for your support.
My best wishes for you and your family. Namaskar 😊😊
