Stories You Need To Know #11
Lord Hanuman is said to be the eleventh avatar of Lord Shiva. He was born to Mata Anjani and Kesari. This avatar of Lord Shiva appeared to emphasize the importance of Yagya and the importance of remaining detached.
Lord Shiva is the vaishnavottam means he is the greatest devotee of Lord Vishnu. Lord Shiva aided lord Vishnu in his every incarnation.
At the time of Krishna, he became gopeswara.
At the time of Rama, he became hanuman.
At the time of Venkateswara, he became kapileswara.
That’s why there is always hanuman in every Rama temple.
Even Shiva is the kshetra pala of every Vishnu temple like he is the kshetra pala of Venkateswara Tirupati in the form of kapileswara Swamy.
He is the eleventh manifestation of Lord Shiva. Like Mahadev is called Panchanana Lord with five faces, Hanuman is also Panchamukhi.
Some say that the relationship between Shiva and Hanuman is Father and Son relation.
Devi Anjana, Lord Hanuman’s mother was a great devotee of Shiva. She worshiped Shiva with pure devotion. One day Shiva pleased with her devotion gave Darshan to her.
She requested Shiva saying “ Hey Mahadev ! I want a son who has all the qualities of you. Please fulfill my wish”.
Shiva says “ you will give birth to a son, who would have few qualities of me, thus He would be referred to as my ansh (form/child / possessing few qualities). Hanuman will be a yogi like me, have immense powers and strength, and would be an immortal”.
Thus Lord Hanuman was born to Anjana Mata.
One line from Hanuman Chalisa says “ Shankara Suvan Kesari Nandan“, which means that Lord Hanuman is the emanation of Shiva, and son of Kesari.
